“And it was also clear that, with mental health problems still being such a taboo, many adults are often too afraid to ask for help for the children in their care.”
She called for this “to change” and for children’s mental health to be seen as every bit as important as their physical well-being and I couldn’t agree with her more. Which is why I, with the help of some extraordinary people, aim to help children, and their parents, improve the way children relate to life and help them communicate their needs positively. We have developed a health and wellbeing workshop for both child and parent to attend which focuses on building self-esteem, increasing confidence and developing communication skills which will allow children to communicate their needs in a positive way.
Not knowing how to interact with their emotions and feelings, or being unable to express themselves, gives way to children becoming angry and frustrated or sometimes depressed. We aim to give children life skills they can use to combat these negative emotions. We will introduce teaching methods using Movement, Sound, Dance, Creative Thinking, Colour, Mind-set Focus, Mindfulness and Meditation in order to guide children towards experiencing an enjoyable and balanced life.
I recently delivered the workshop to sixty children at a primary school in Hemel Hampstead. The 9 to11 year olds really enjoyed and benefited from the workshop, which received positive feedback. The workshop was a collaboration with Tana Macphen- Smith at Clear Minds who delivered the program to the parents, teaching parents to support their child’s new way of learning, and in doing so, developing a new level of parent/child bonding.
I will be running a workshop called Rainbow Ray Kidz for 5 to 11 year olds in April 2016 at The Centre of Wellbeing, Sawbridgeworth.
We are inviting people to come along to a ‘Cakes and Colouring’ taster day on 5th March at 11-2pm. People can find full details on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/events/1644434395816500/
I aim to make a positive impact to community of Harlow, and surrounding areas. I believe people can transform their life for better through a simple change in mind-set, healthy eating and education.
