Absentee Labour councillor steps down

PAUL Schroder, one of three Labour Councillors in the Mark Hall Ward, has resigned as a local councillor due to work commitments.

Paul Schroder has represented Mark Hall for three years, has taken on a new job as a full time official for the maritime trade union Nautilus. His duties cover the whole of the UK and beyond, and as such he has found it difficult to devote the necessary time to his local councillor role. As a consequence, he has decided to stand down from Harlow Council with immediate effect.

This means that there will be a by–election, which will be held on Thursday 22nd May – the same day as the District and European elections.

The Labour Party has announced that their second candidate for the Mark Hall elections will be local community activist, Sheila Sullivan.

The political make-up of the Council is now:

Labour 19

Conservative 12

Independent 1

Vacancy 1
