HARLOW MP, Robert Halfon rose on the floor of the House of Commons to praise the success of Burnt Mill Academy.

Mr Halfon said:

“Thank you Mr Speaker. Is my Honourable Friend aware that under the leadership of Helena Mills at Burnt Mill School in Harlow, they have achieved this year 76% in Maths & English A to C GCSE, compared to just 27% a few years ago, by doing many of the measures the Honourable Gentleman set out and having the relentless focus on Maths & English? Will my Honourable Friend look at schools like Burnt Mill to see examples of good practice and to see how the new accountability system works?

David Laws:

Mr Speaker, I am delighted to hear from my Honourable Friend about the success at his local school and we are always looking at what we can learn from examples of schools that do so fantastically and we hope that the new accountability regime will be welcomed by his school.
