YOUNG people in Harlow are setting their sights on careers as bankers, microbiologists and vets.
Year 8 students at Burnt Mill Academy, in First Avenue, enjoyed learning about various professions during their careers day. They spent a morning hearing from local professionals before posing probing questions about their roles and the paths they took to success.
Paul Williams, assistant headteacher, said: “The idea behind the Year 8 careers day is to give students an understanding of the link between the decisions they make at school and their future careers.
“The students then took what they had learnt and looked into courses which would help them on their preferred career path to find out what they need to achieve here at Burnt Mill to take those future steps.
“We want them to be aspirational and challenge them to make choices which really push them.”
The students have written thank you letters to those who gave up their time to take part in the day.
Those students who contributed the most to the event will be treated to a special lunch with the headteacher.
