Athletics: Harlow shine in New Hall woods

HARLOW Running Club hosted the second round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League on a cold Sunday morning over a five mile course on the fields and woods between Newhall and Church Langley.

After a clear night there were some icy patches to beware of in the open stretches but the woods were still very muddy in places.

The Men’s winner was Andy Mynott of Saffron Walden Striders followed by Mark Ford from Ware Joggers and Steven Prosser of Bishop Stortford.

First Harlow runner was Rob Lowe in 10th position out of 120 finishers and 1st Vet 40. He was followed home by Stuart Saville (17th), Alan Broughton (20th and 3rd Vet 40), Jamie Jephcott (26th) and Steve MacKenzie (27th and 3rd Vet 50). John Tennant (47th) and Roy Steven (63rd) were first and third Vet 60 finishers respectively.

The Men’s team winners on the day were Ware Joggers, with Saffron Walden 2nd, Stortford 3rd and Harlow a disappointing 4th. The Ladies winner was Fiona Halls from Saffron Walden, with Emma Deary 2nd and Sarah Moores 3rd, both from Stortford. First Harlow lady was Paula Reynolds in 6th place out of 83 finishers and she was followed by Dionne Jones 7th and Julia Gardiner 11th. The Ladies team winners on the day were Stortford, followed by Ware, Harlow and Saffron Walden. After two races Ware Joggers lead the way with 7 pts, Bishop’s Stortford 6tps, Saffron Walden 5pts and Harlow 2pts.

Meanwhile at the third round of the Metropolitan Cross Country League,
run over a muddy 5 mile course at Horsenden Hill in Perivale, Steve
Murtagh finished in 85th place out of 366 finishers in a superb 35min

At the Oak Hill Parkrun 5K at Barnet Richard Solomons finished in 7th
place out of 81 finishers and 1st Vet 60 in an excellent 21min 27sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Debbie Barry finished in
44th place out of 108 finishers in 26min 43sec.
