Harlow Town 2 v 0 Chatham Town

By Mark Sweeney

HARLOW Town bounced back from last week’s loss as they extended the best home-record in the league.

The visitors enjoyed an early spell of possession, coming closest through an Alfie May shot that struck the crossbar in the fifth minute and forcing Hawks keeper, Daniel Knowles, into a fine save fifteen minutes later.

However, Harlow broke the deadlock on 35 minutes, as Chats goalkeeper, Jack Bradshaw, raced out of the box towards the sideline, only to slice his clearance to the returning Junior Dodson who finished into the open net.

Hawks captain, Darren Blewitt, was replaced at half time with an injury, explained after the game that he had a lot of swelling and was struggling to walk, but expects to be back to full fitness by the time his suspension has been served.

Chatham yet again hit the woodwork at the start of the second half, and forced Knowles into another diving save to stop a May free-kick, but as the half went on, Harlow started to establish dominance.

Top scorer, Alex Read, finished off the opponents in the 83rd minute, volleying a Leon Antoine flick into the bottom corner, sending Harlow up to second in the league.

Harlow Town Boss, Danny Chapman, said, “We didn’t pass the ball well enough and we weren’t good enough in the first half. In the second half we imposed ourselves a little more, and we could have got three or four goals, but they gave us a good game.

“Performances are great, but results are more important.

“It’s always important to win home games. We still have to play some top teams, and it’s important that we win those matches.

“The boys are now starting to recognise that they can achieve promotion.”
