GCSE results

Mark Hall Academy is today celebrating an increase of 12% in its GCSEs results this year; reflecting the hard work by students and staff alike and significant progress the academy has made on its journey of recovery and revitalisation.

Key highlights:

Overall achievement up by 12% on the previous school’s results last year
Boys’ achievement up by 15%
Levels of expected progress up by 10% in both English and maths

Principal, Corinne Franceschi, who took on the challenge of turning round the predecessor school only a year ago stated: “I am proud of the commitment and perseverance shown by staff and students in beginning this journey of transformation and much needed revitalisation. This improvement of 12% is regarded by the DfE as impressive, given the context of the previous school. It also shows that what we are doing is working and is sustainable.

“We are particularly pleased with the considerable improvement in boys’ achievement – which we know is a national issue – up 15% from the previous school’s results and we are very close to reaching the best ever results attained by the previous school. The entire academy community is determined to build on this success and we all know that the right foundations have been put in place for future improvements.”

Ian Cleland, Chief Executive, Academy Transformation Trust (sponsors of Mark Hall Academy) said: “These results reflect the determination of Mark Hall Academy’s pupils, staff and parents to raise achievements and ensure every pupil realises all they can be. It is encouraging to see the school making steady progress since becoming an academy, reflected in its 12% increase in the academy’s 5+ A*-C, including English and maths, results this year.

“We’ve had some excellent results across The Trust and our family of academies are moving forward. We’re committed to providing an outstanding learning environment for all our pupils and uncovering the potential in everyone.”
