Harlow Town 4 v 1 Waltham Abbey

HARLOW TOWN laid down their promotion credentials with an emphatic 4-1 win at the Harlow Arena.

The Abbey had impressed in their first few games of the season but had no answer to a well drilled, professional and outstanding Harlow Town.

The game started with the rain lashing down and once again underlined the advantage of a 3G pitch.

Harlow Town opened up their account in the 5th minute. Jared Small put a square pass in from the right and David Cowley produced a thunderbolt from outside the box to put the Hawks in front.

One of the delights in watching Harlow Town is the ability to play expansive, expressive football and a cross-field pass in the 11th minute by David Cowley to Jared Small illustrated that.

Harlow scored the second goal in the 12th minute when an Abbey defender made a mistake in the penalty area and James Smith made no mistake from five yards.

Abbey were finding it hard to find a rhythm. It was good to see former Hawks manager, Ryan Kirby out on the pitch and a lovely through ball showed their was still years left in the veteran.

Harlow were in total control of this game and were impressing from all quarters. Dave Kendall was particularly strong from the defence and it was a testament to his all-round game that his backward nod from close range gave Harlow a 3-0 lead at half time.

In case you thought Alex Read was quiet he joined the party in the 50th minute when he headed home from close range to make it 4-0.

This was really a case of it never rains it pours for Abbey. They could not really string a move together. However, they got a goal back in the 70th minute when Jason Hallett squeezed the ball home.

Harlow have a break in the league until next Tuesday away at Burnham Ramblers.
