Harlow Town 1 v 1 Thurrock

AN AGGRESSIVE Thurrock managed to strong arm a point by drawing 1-1 at the Harlow Arena.

Thurrock really should have opened the scoring in the third minute when Lewwis Spence rose high from a corner, headed goalwards but the ball was somehow bungled away by the Harlow defence.

Harlow were on the back foot early on as the robust Fleet were not letting them settle.

The first Thurrock attack saw James Smith put in good work around the box before he was tackled by Sam Holloway.

In the 24th minute, Alex Read broke clear of the Fleet defence but his shot was parried away by keeper, Andy Walker.

Shane Stamp then hit the bar with a lovely curling shot to show that Thurrock might out-muscle the Hawks but could not out-class them.

Thurrock missed a few more chances which you just cannot do against league leaders, Harlow.

However, Harlow, for all their neat touches could not find the final ball perhaps because the last pass was more to do with luck than judgement.

That all changed in the 50th minute, when James Smith got to the edge of the area, picked his spot and tucked the ball away to put Harlow in the lead.

Thurrock did not seem to have a plan B but their aggressive play was not taking them very far.

This must be frustrating for Mark Stimson who seems to be close to a fair team.

Harlow contained Thurrock as they marshalled the midfield and were solid in defence.

Thurrock continued to attack and Charlie Stimson went close on a couple of occasions.

But on the 88th minute, Thurrock equalised when Charlie Stimson used his strength to bundle the ball home. It looked like he had fouled the Harlow keeper but the referee, gave it.

It looked like a foul but at the same time, the Hawks new keeper has not exactly bossed his area over the last two weeks.

Harlow limped off to nurse their wounds whilst Thurrock took a hard earned point.
