Sir Charles KaoHARLOW MP, Robert Halfon, visited the Sir Charles Kao University Technical College (UTC) last week after it opened its doors on the Harlow College site last month.

The MP spent the morning at the College, sharing an assembly with the UTC’s students, taking part in a Question and Answer Session and touring around some of the classrooms, before finally joining the students for lunch.

“This visit today has just been incredible” Robert said “I’ve spent the last three years of my life campaigning for this new school, trying to get the Government to build one of their first twenty-five UTC’s here in Harlow”

“Securing the £10million of Government funding took an enormous amount of work alongside Harlow College, Anglia Ruskin University and business partners such as Pearson and GSK. However, coming here today and seeing these students, aged 14-19, studying for state-of-the-art technical qualifications in science, computing and medicine has made it all worthwhile. It will give them invaluable skills and opportunities that will help them for the rest of their lives.”

The MP paid tribute to the UTC’s Principal Mike McKeaveney, as well as it’s hardworking teachers and students.
