HARLOW MP Robert Halfon has visited the Royal Mail sorting office in Harlow to see how Royal Mail is gearing up for Christmas and to wish everyone at the Royal Mail in Harlow a very merry Christmas.

Mr Halfon was shown around the office by Delivery Office Manager, Anthony Challis, and was introduced to the postmen and women who are working hard sorting and delivering mail in the run-up to Christmas.

Mr Halfon said: “It was great to meet postmen and women at Royal Mail’s Harlow delivery office and see first-hand just how much effort they put into delivering for people at this time of year.

“Our postal workers do such an important job at this time of year and help to deliver Christmas for many people and families in our area. I would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them all the best over the busy festive period.”

Anthony Challis, Royal Mail Delivery Office Manager at Harlow, commented:
“Our postmen and women are working extremely hard to deliver Christmas cards, letters and parcels to people across Harlow. We are grateful that Robert visited the office to see our operation and to support the team during our busiest time of year.

“We’d like to remind our customers to post early so that friends and family have longer to enjoy their Christmas greetings.”

Whilst at the sorting office, Robert was reminded that the last recommend posting dates for Christmas are:

Second Class – Thursday 18th December
First Class – Saturday 20th December
Special Delivery – Tuesday 23rd December

Mr Halfon also heard about improvements being made to the Post Office which will improve the service that customers receive over the winter. The Government is committed to protecting the Post Office and making sure there is no closure programme. £1.34 billion has been invested in this Parliament and an additional £640 million committed up to 2018. For the first time £20 million of funding will be invested in maintaining small community Post Office branches at the heart of deprived and often isolated communities.

Notably, Post Offices in the Harlow constituency have benefitted from some of this money by getting refurbishments, such as the branches at Roydon and Old Harlow. Robert is also a strong campaigned to get the Post Office in Nazeing to re-open, after the shop that hosted the service withdrew their premises for Post Office use. Speaking about this, Robert said:
“I am doing whatever I can to make sure that the Post Office is actively seeking to re-open the Nazeing branch. The closure has been a real inconvenience for residents, and I have been in regular communication with the Post Office about it”
