Robbery in Staple Tye

FOUR masked men fled with about £1,000 after threatening staff at a Harlow bookmakers with a garden fork.

The men got into the BetFred branch at Staple Tye shopping centre through the back door at about 4.40pm on Friday.

They threatened three members of staff and demanded cash before taking a bundle of banknotes from a safe.
A female cashier had the fork pointed at her face and was told to hand over her handbag containing cash and a mobile phone.

The four men then ran out of the shop and left in a red VW Golf car and a white Ford Transit tipper truck that had been parked at the back of the building. The truck was later found abandoned in Parnell Road.

Witnesses reported that the occupants had left in the red VW Golf. The car was later found on fire in a field off Joyners Field, Harlow.

The Golf had been reported stolen from Cambridgeshire and the truck had been taken from Chelmsford. All four men were wearing black clothing and black balaclavas.

One was wearing a fluorescent jacket and another man is thought to have had a beard.

Any witnesses who have not yet contacted police, or anyone with any information about the men, should ring officers at Harlow CID on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
