Sniff the 20th Century at the Rhodes

Lifestyle / Wed 28th Jan 2015 at 11:07am

SmellFED up of all the usual Valentine’s Day activities? This Valentine’s season treat yourself to something a little bit different and join us at Rhodes Arts Complex for an interactive event all about the history of perfume!

ON the 11th February, fragrance lover Odette Toilette (aka Lizzie Ostrom) will be immersing you in the past century through your sense of smell. Have you ever wondered what makes Chanel No 5 so iconic? Or what scent is thought to attract people to you? And is it worth spending £50 on perfume when there are cheaper alternatives with the same ingredients?

Odette will have all the answers for you as you sample scents for men and women between 1900 – 1939. You will also lean how they relate to the story of their time across fashion, music, film, food, science and social change. Find out why one of the first perfumes for women smelt like leather and how society dramatically changed perfume through the years.

Since her first event in 2010, Odette Toilette has been changing the way we think about our sense of smell ever since. Her interactive experiences have made learning about perfume fun, encompassing teen scent nostalgia workshops, sniffable history lectures, and scented tours of art galleries.

Sniff the 20th Century takes place at Rhodes Arts Complex on the 11th February at 7pm. Tickets £7.50. To book, contact our Box Office on 01279 710 200 or see the website at www.rhodesbishopsstortford.org.uk.
