MP Tom Watson held an informal discussion for local labour supporters, trade unionists and young people interested in politics at the Shark pub in Harlow.

Mr Watson had spent the day door-to-door canvassing before leading the event, where he answered questions and spoke about issues affecting Harlow.

Mr Watson said: “I’ve had a genuinely great day today, not just because we’ve ended up in the pub, but I’ve met people of all ages.

“We’ve been knocking on doors on the houses around the pub and some of the flats.

“People are still struggling, they’re fighting the cost of living, but they’re working hard and they’re trying to get through it.

“This place needs an MP that’s going to stand up for the community and that’s why I’m here today to support Suzy Stride.”

Mr Watson has been involved in some significant national campaigns such as the uncovering of the phone hacking scandal, when, as a member of the Culture, Media and Sport select committee, he questioned Rupert and James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks.
