Running: Winter smiles for Harlow runners

HARLOW Running Club competed in the fourth and final round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League over a muddy 5 mile course at Bishop’s Stortford.

First HRC member to finish was Rob Lowe in 11th position out of 131 finishers in 31min 34sec. He was followed home by Jamie Jephcott 21st in 32min 30sec, Peter Brewin 26th in 33min 22sec, Greg Goodey 46th in 35min 23sec, Adrian Fell 50th in 35min 33sec, Darren Coates 56th in 36min 10sec, Andy Terrell 58th in 36min 17sec, Brendon Maclean 68th in 38min 14sec, Mark Hayward 75th in 39min 21sec, Jon Steadman 78th in 39min 42sec, John Bull 79th in 39min 44sec, John Tennant 80th in 39min 45sec, Andy Ramage 84th in 40min 14sec, Pasquale Pellecchia 85th in 40min 16sec, Sean Flynn 86th in 40m 41sec, Alan Cootes 91st in 41min 19sec, Martin McColgan 96th in 41min 44sec, Graham Saville 102nd in 42min 39sec, Robin Lozeau 104th in 42min 59sec and Terry Pike 120th in 50min 20sec. In the Ladies race Julia Gardiner finished in 3rd place out of 74 finishers in 36min 37sec. She was followed by Louise Tankard 6th in 37min 30sec, Paula Reynolds 8th in 38min 17sec, Sharon Wright 11th in 39min 10sec, Janice Page 33rd in 44min 33sec, Karen Moir 40th in 46min 03sec, Debbie Smith 47th in 47min 10sec, Debbie Barry 52nd in 48min 45sec, Holly Nairn 55th in 49min 37sec, Jane Evans 56th in 49min 38sec, Alison Bull 59th in 50min 56sec and Louise Cootes 60th in 51min 12sec. The winning mens team on the day were Ware Joggers with Hoddesdon Tri 2nd, Bishop’s Stortford RC 3rd, Saffron Walden Striders 4th and HRC 5th. The ladies race was won by Ware Joggers with HRC 2nd, Bishop’s Stortford 3rd, Saffron Walden Striders 4th and Hoddesdon Tri 5th. Overall team winners were Ware Joggers with Hoddesdon Tri 2nd, Bishop’s Stortford 3rd, Saffron Walden Striders 4th and HRC 5th. After four races the final table reads Ware Joggers 1st, Hoddesdon Tri 2nd, Bishop’s Stortford 3rd, Saffron Walden Striders 4th and HRC a disappointing 5th.

Meanwhile at the Peddars Way Ultra, which runs from the Suffolk border to the North Norfolk Coast along an ancient Roman Road for a total distance of 47 miles, Gary Godfrey finished in 28th place out of 66 finishers in an exhausting 9hrs 15min.

At the London Winter Run 10K Lyndon Cooper finished in 11th place out of 11,469 finishers in an excellent 36min 17sec. He was followed home by Louise Kedge 3073rd in 54min 36sec, Richard Smith 3078th in 54min 37sec, Joanna Lawrence 4178th in 57min 04sec, Jessica Briggs 4441st in 57min 37sec and Georgina Spenceley 5525th in 59min 14sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Louise Tankard finished in 6th place out of 91 finishers and 1st female in an excellent 22min 16sec. She was followed home by Andy Ramage 17th in 23min 59sec, Paul Dixon 20th in 24min 27sec, Spenser Brooks 23rd in 24min 37sec, Jim Bates 33rd and 1st Vet 70 in 26min 44sec, Jane Evans 39th in 27min 57sec, Alan Wellbelove 52nd in 30min 19sec, Pushpa Mistry 54th in 31min 04sec and Louise Cootes 82nd in 39min 18sec.

At the Panshanger Parkrun 5K at Hertford Rob Lowe finished in 2nd place out of 196 finishers in a fantastic 18min 23sec.

At the Great Notley Parkrun 5K at Braintree Jamie Jephcott finished in 3rd place out of 85 finishers in a superb 19min 43sec.

At the Cambridge Parkrun 5K Vicky Calver finished in 361st place out of 446 finishers in 31min 50sec.

At the Cannon Hill Parkrun 5K in Birmingham Andy Kinney finished in 208th place out of 392 finishers in 26min 58sec. The following day Kinney completed the Stourbridge Stagger, a very muddy multi-terrain 10 mile race, in 387th place out of 425 finishers in 2hrs 01min 44sec.
