A 20-year-old man from Harlow is in police custody over an allegation of rape.

Essex Police were contacted at just after 5.30am on Tuesday morning in relation to a complaint of rape from a 19-year-old woman from Harlow.

Part of the West Gate area was cordoned off whilst forensic teams undertook an examination of the area.

A male remains in custody and is being interviewed by detectives.
