The journey begins for Rhodes Talent Search

Lifestyle / Thu 12th Feb 2015 pm28 01:37pm

CALLING all singers, dancers, comedians, jugglers, musicians and everyone in between – the annual Rhodes Talent Search is upon us once more and the competition needs you!

The event sets out to find the best talent in Stortford and the surrounding area and organisers expect 2015 to be bigger and better than ever.

There are three categories – dance, music and variety. Each category has three age ranges, under 11, 11 to 16 and over 16. If you are competing as a group you will be placed in the category according to your oldest member.

• DANCE

All types of dance are welcome, from jazz and ballet to street, Burlesque and belly.
Entrants can take part individually or as part of a group.

Dance has always been the most popular category in the competition and the first ever Rhodes Talent Search winner was solo dancer Georgina Clark in 2012.

• MUSIC

Bands, musical soloists, rappers, MCs and singers are all welcome in this category.

You could be anything from a potential Katy Perry or One Direction to a classical pianist or the member of a rock band.

• VARIETY

The variety category is for all forms of entertainment and performance that don’t strictly fall into either the music or dance category.

This means that almost anything goes. You might be a magician, a comedian, a juggler, maybe you’ve got a performing dog or you’re part of a gymnastics group.

Variety has seen numerous entries in the past including a clown troupe and a dancing dog.

This year, organisers have teamed up with Water Lane’s De Rosa Music and Woodbury Studios to offer over £1,000 worth of prizes.

They include a £200 voucher for De Rosa Music and a year’s free music tuition for the highest place young musician or group.

A free recording session at Woodbury Studios near Hatfield Heath is also on offer for the highest placed vocal artist.

Last year’s competition was won by Dance Duo Katie and Katie whilst the DeRosa Music Award was won by 10 year old classical pianist Roberta Short. The Woodbury Recording Studios Award was one by local band The Twisted Straps .

Rhodes artistic director and competition producer Phil Dale said: “I am delighted that we are able to run Rhodes Talent Search for a fourth year running. We have had some fantastic support from our sponsors, De Rosa Music and

Woodbury Studio’s, who are offering some great prizes for the winners.

Competitions like this encourages young talent into the lime light and brings together a new generation of singers, dancers and overall performers.”
