St Clare’s present: “An evening with Christine Walkden”

Charity / Fri 20th Feb 2015 at 02:52pm

WalkendenST Clare patron Christine Walkden will be sharing anecdotes from her green-fingered career during an ‘Evening With…’ on Friday, March 20.

The TV gardener has devoted her life to horticulture since discovering a passion for plants at the age of 10.

During the course of the evening, the Sawbridgeworth resident, who became a St Clare patron last year, will be sharing some of the highlights of her gardening career. Her adventures have taken her all over the UK and the world, having visited 43 different countries to explore plants in the wild.

Christine’s careers has spanned from working in a Lancashire Parks department to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, as well as plant hunting in the Himalayas. Now considered an expert in her field, she is the resident gardener on BBC One’s The One Show and is also known for her own TV series, including Christine’s Garden and most recently Glorious Gardens from Above. She is also a regular panellist on Radio 4’s Gardener’s Question Time.

St Clare community fundraiser Sarah Calder said: “This is an evening not to be missed as it is one of Christine’s most requested talks and normally has people laughing and crying during the same evening.”

‘An Evening with Christine Walkden: The Life of a Gardener’ is being presented by Clavering Horticultural Society at Clavering Village Hall. Doors open at 7.30pm. There will be a licensed bar and raffle.

Tickets are £5 in advance only from Clavering village shop, FW Whyman Nursery in Hill Green and R&R Saggers Garden Centre in Newport. They can also be purchased from Jenny Milledge on 01799 550723 or [email protected].
