Anne FrankTHE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK

HARLOW Theatre Company are presenting The Diary of Anne Frank at Victoria Hall Theatre from Wed 11th t Sat 14th March at 7.30 pm

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen and although there is no need of an excuse to produce Anne’s story, it does seem timely to visit Anne and her family in their attic in Amsterdam.

Although many people will know the true and emotive story of Anne Frank, the play is a look at how ordinary people may react under extreme pressure. It is a tale of love, compassion and endurance. It is not, however, as many seem to think, all doom and gloom: it is shot through with humour, high spirits and at times great joy.

The important role of Anne is being undertaken by Molly Jenkins from Old Harlow who will be well known to audiences at Victoria Hal for her appearances with CATS and in many Christmas shows – including December’s “Sleeping Beauty” in which she played Myrtle the fairy. Her father, Otto Frank, is being played by Tony Saxby who was also in the same show as Crabapple the Jester.

Alan Jones, the director of this production, has known the play for many years and has always found the story extremely moving, engaging and relevant all those years after the end of the Second World War. It is, I believe, even more relevant today with the conflicts and animosity between nations and religions.
