Nurses in masks coming to the Rhodes Theatre.

VAMOS Theatre, the UK’s leading full mask theatre company, is bringing its latest national touring production to Rhodes Arts Complex in Bishop’s Stortford.

Performances: Friday 1st May, 8pm

Nursing Lives is theatre show performed entirely in full mask. It’s a love story set in the early 1980s of Thatcher’s Britain and the hard-working, heart-breaking, swing-dancing world of the UK’s wartime hospitals. When Flo, a feisty seventy-something, learns that the hospital she trained at during the Second World War is being demolished, she decides to take one last look – and stop the bulldozers in their tracks. Her illicit visit becomes a personal celebration of friendship, courage, adventure and romance. But is what Flo remembers really the truth, or is history ready to be re-written?

Award-winning Vamos Theatre has been praised by the BBC and The Stage as one of the major exponents of full mask, an innovative and unique style of theatre which is less-known in the UK; it has no speech, and the story is told physically, supported by design, music, and lighting. In Vamos’s hands it’s been called “one of the most engaging, human, and personal theatre experiences around.”

Nursing Lives is innovative, accessible, humorous and physical theatre, suitable for 12 years and up. The Guardian describes it as “an affecting, heartfelt production that’s funny and touching in turn” and BBC Radio Shropshire calls it “absolutely delightful. A big smile of a show, complete with singing pigs”. Vamos’s previous production, Finding Joy was Pick of the Week in the Guardian Guide, and received eight five-star reviews: the BBC described the production as ‘thoroughly thought provoking and charmingly funny.’

Nursing Lives is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and by Worcestershire County Council.

Nursing Lives is at the Rhodes Arts Complex on Friday 1st May at 8pm. Tickets are £14/ £11 concs and £10 for schools. Book tickets online at www.rhodesbishopsstortford.org.uk or through the Box Office on 01279 710 200
