Athletics: Harlow athletes tough it out at English Schools X-Country Champs

Harlow AC CountryTHREE Harlow AC youngsters made the long journey to compete at the English Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 14th March 2015 in Blackburn.

The athletes had qualified to compete at the championships after being selected from performances in their own county championships where the best eight athletes are offered the opportunity to compete at the English Schools.

In the Junior Girls 3.2K, Lottie Rowedder (Herts Schools), competing in her first English Schools, finished in 150th place in 12.52 from 345 finishers.

In the Junior Boys 3.6K, it was a tough day for Lewis Harknett (Essex Schools) who bravely finished in 133rd place in 13.12 from 341 finishers whilst battling with illness. The Essex boys team finished in 5th place from 44 teams.

In the Intermediate Girls 3.6K, Rebecca Vears (Herts Schools) also in her first English Schools, finished in 225th place in 15.03 from 339 finishers.

A spokesperson said: “I’m really proud of our athletes competing for their county schools teams (bothHerts and Essex) at these championships. The standard is always really high and it’s a great achievement to even be selected to compete there. The unusually short course didn’t suit our athletes but they still competed with distinction.
