Athletics: Tankard motors home in debut at Silverstone

HARLOW Running Club member Colin Moody collected a silver medal at the Essex 20 Mile Championships held over a hilly three lap course at Langham near Colchester. Moody finished in 151st place out of 423 finishers in a superb 2hrs 38min 37sec to finish 2nd in the Vet 60 category. First to finish was Jamie Jephcott in 59th place in a personal best time for the distance(PB) of 2hrs 18min 06sec. He was followed home by Sharon Wright 123rd in an excellent 2hrs 32min 54sec in her debut at the distance, Adrian Fell 144th in 2hrs 37min 43sec (debut), Sean Flynn 196th in 2hrs 46min 16sec, Lyndsey Hodge 239th in 2hrs 55min 40sec(PB), Debbie Smith 283rd in 3hrs 03min 41sec(debut) and Michelle Aitken 329th in 3hrs 12min 16sec(debut).

Meanwhile at the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon, run on the historic motor racing circuit and organised by the team responsible for the world famous Virgin London Marathon, several HRC members managed one of the water stations en route, and five runners completed the course.

Louise Tankard finished in 997th place out of 6656 finishers in a superb 1hr 41min 00sec in her debut at the distance. She was followed by Jim Bates 1591st and 1st Vet 70 in an excellent 1hr 46min 13sec to create a new HRC Vet 70 record also in his debut at the distance, Matt Jones 2282nd in 1hr 52min 19sec, Robin Lozeau 2586th in 1hr 54min 52sec and Derek Seymour 3066th and 3rd Vet 70 in 1hr 57min 55sec.

At the Dentdale Run, a hilly 14 mile multi-terrain race on the Cumbria/Yorkshire border, Daniel Jephcott finished in 174th place out of 447 finishers and 3rd U20 in 1hr 54min 10sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Roy Steven finished in 24th place out of 154 finishers and 1st V60 in 23min 06sec. He was followed by Justin Patten 34th in 24min 22sec, Katharine Fennelly 38th in 24min 38sec(debut), Terry Pike 56th in 26min 34sec, Louise Kedge 57th in 26min 51sec(debut), Alan Wellbelove 58th in 26min 56sec(PB) and Louise Cootes 59th in 27min 05sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Janice Page finished in 48th place out of 128 finishers and 2nd Lady Vet 50 in 24min 52sec and she was followed by Husband Dave 55th in 25min 49sec.

At the Richmond Parkrun 5K in Surrey Richard Solomons finished in 29th place out of 302 finishers and 1st Vet 60 in 21min 09sec.
