TRANSPORT watchdog Passenger Focus found 87 per cent of those using the region’s bus services were satisfied with what they got for their fare.

This year’s Bus Passenger Survey was announced in Manchester on Thursday 12th March, with a panel debate featuring transport minister Baroness Susan Kramer. The survey covered 23 local transport authorities and 49 bus companies, as well as surveying in excess of 47,000 passengers from across England and Scotland – the largest ever produced by Passenger Focus.

Essex’s 87 per cent overall customer satisfaction rate is an improvement on last year; in 2014 the county scored an 83 per cent approval rating.

Satisfaction ratings for journeys also rose across Essex with 85 percent of people happy with journey routes and 88 per cent happy with speed and overall performance of the driver.

The survey also shows a rise in passengers with disabilities reporting a positive experience, with a 92 per cent approval rating compared with last year’s 87 percent

Essex County Councillor Rodney L Bass, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “This survey provides a good insight into how bus passengers within Essex view services; I am very pleased that there has been a four per cent rise in satisfaction rates.

“Overall the survey shows that the bus services are coping well with the demands and needs of passengers, whilst also highlighting areas where clear improvements can be made. Through our bus strategy initiatives we have the potential to make such improvements and ensure that the good figures shown here are continued for many years to come.”

Getting around Essex – A consultation into the future plans and strategies for Essex bus services is currently taking place. So far, over 1,000 people have taken part and given us their views on how to improve the county’s bus network and deliver greater economic and social benefits for people who travel and work in Essex.

There is still time for residents to get involved; the consultation runs until Tuesday 31 March – http://t.co/ZPPuzfgDUS
