Still time to comment on Latton Priory and Harlow Gateway plans

NORTH Weald Bassett Parish Council has extended the time for comments to be made over its concerns that two significant parts of the parish could be open for development after being omitted from the parish’s Neighbourhood Plan area.

The parish council has decided to create a Neighbourhood Plan, which allows ‘communities to decide the future of the places where they live and work’ and ‘choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built’.

However Epping Forest District Council has told the parish council that, against the wishes of the parish council, part of the North Weald parish should not be included in the area covered by the Neighbourhood Plan as it remains “a strategic site for possible development”.

The district council has said it would be premature to include such sites – Latton Priory and the Harlow gateway site off the A414 London Road – in a Neighbourhood Plan while it (the district council) is under a duty to co-operate with its neighbouring authority (Harlow District Council).

The parish council has been told that the issue will be discussed by the district council’s cabinet in June.

Already more than 60 people have responded to the parish council with 56 saying it wrong for the areas to be excluded from the Plan.

The parish council has now extended its deadline for feedback from residents until May 15.
