THE LEGENDARY Harlow DJ, Pepe Herod has passes away after a short illness.
To a large number of Harlow residents of a certain age, Pepe’s disco at The Birdcage/Tiffany’s/Painted Lady were the stuff of legends.
And although his death will be mourned, for many, it will also be celebrated as the great man brought so much happiness to so many lives.
Pepe Herod died in the early hours of Sunday (April 19) aged 68 after a short battle with cancer. His funeral will be held at Holy Cross Church in Tracyes Road on Thursday, April 30.
His son Aiden Herod said: “He was an overwhelming icon and legend, someone who everyone looked up to in the family, he was in everybody’s life.
“He was one of the first black people in Harlow when he came here in the 1960s and lived in the same house in Milwards for all of that time.”
He was brilliant, I wonder if he's met up with Yoshi
I worked with him in Tiffanys and Castle Hall in Hertford with Bill Yardley. I learnt so much from him. Brilliant DJ and really kind guy.
