Athletics: Harlow RC impress in midweek road races

HARLOW Running Club made a great start to the first race of four of the Herts / Essex Mid Week Road Race League Division 2, held over a 10K course at Stevenage. HRC finished 2nd overall behind host club Fairlands Valley Spartens with the Ladies team out performing the Men by finishing 2nd in their league to the Men’s team’s 3rd place. The Ladies Vet team also outdid the Men by finishing in 1st place to the Men’s Vet team’s 3rd place. The rest of the league is made up with teams from Royston Runners, Hitchin RC, Broxbourne RC, Herts Phoenic AC, Edmonton RC and Stevenage & North Herts AC.

Louise Tankard was first Harlow lady to finish in the Ladies race in 4th place out of 84 finishers in an excellent personal best (PB) time for the distance of 41min 42sec which is a new HRC Senior Ladies record. She was followed home by Julia Gardiner 5th and 1st Lady Vet 35 in 43min 53sec, Paula Reynolds 8th in 45min 02sec and Sharon Wright 12th in 45min 26sec, just two days after completing the Halstead Marathon. There were also PB times from Carinne Jay 15th and 3rd Lady Vet 35 in 46min 38sec, Martine Beard 40th in 52min 26sec, Louise Kedge 53rd in 54min 23sec and Paulene Galoppi was 80th and 2nd Lady Vet 65 in 61min 33sec. First Harlow runner to finish was Lyndon Cooper in 8th place out of 161 finishers in a fantastic 37min 05sec. He was followed by Jamie Jephcott 22nd and 3rd Vet 40 in 38min 49sec, Peter Brewin 26th in 39min 05sec (PB) and Alex Smith 40th in 40min 22sec (PB). Steve Mackenzie was 48th and 2nd Vet 50 in 41min 11sec, Jim Bates was 138th and 3rd Vet 70 in 51min 05sec and there were also PB times from Len Saterlay 68th in 43min 23sec, Mark Hayward 75th in 44min 06sec and Alan Wellbelove 142nd in 52min 10sec.

Meanwhile at the Great Baddow 10 Mile race at Chelmsford Jamie Jephcott finished in 51st place out of 636 finishers in a superb 67min 44sec. He was followed by Brendon Maclean 107th in a PB equalling 73min 12sec, John Tennant 194th in 78min 28sec, Jim Bates 269th in 82min 26sec, Robin Lozeau 288th in 83min 21sec and Debbie Barry 380th in 88min 09sec which equals her PB.

At the Hook 10 Mile race near Basingstoke Andy Kinney finished in 210th place out of 269 finishers in 1hr 33min 36sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Ben Chitiyo was victorious, winning the event out of 108 finishers in an excellent 18min 59sec (PB). Alan Broughton finished in 6th place and 2nd Vet 50 in 20min 48sec, Paul Dixon 18th in 23min 17sec and Andy Kinney 44th in 26min 54sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jamie Jephcott finished in 3rd place and 1st Vet 40 in 19min 08sec.

At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K Jason Haigh finished in 17th place out of 176 finishers in 22min 13sec. He was followed by John Bull 21st in 22min 22sec (PB), Vicky Steadman 26th and 2nd Lady in 23min 14sec, Terry Pike 56th in 25min 43sec (PB), Celia Haigh 75th in 27min 04sec and Alison Bull 99th in 28min 53sec.

At the Panshanger Parkrun 5K at Hertford Sean Flynn finished in 43rd place out of 272 finishers in 23min dead.

At the Tonbridge Parkrun 5K in Kent Alan Wellbelove finished in 84th place out of 333 finishers in 24min 58sec (PB).
