Athletics: Harlow runners impress at midweek league

HARLOW Running Club hosted the third round of the Herts/Essex Midweek
Road Race League Division 2 over an undulating 10K course. Once again
the ladies outshone the men by comfortably winning their race, with
the men only 4th out of nine teams. After three races the ladies lie
in 2nd place in their league just 1 point behind Orion Harriers and
1st place in the Ladies Vets League, the men are 4th and overall HRC
are 3rd with 44pts, just 1pt behind Fairlands Valley Spartans from
Stevenage, Orion Harriers are top on 49pts. With one round to go and
two teams promoted to division 1 HRC are now in a great position to
return to the top division after a three year absence. Louise Brass
won the ladies race out of 91 finishers in an excellent time of 41min
43sec and she was followed home by Louise Tankard 3rd in 43min 01sec,
Sharon Wright 7th in 45min 02sec and Julia Gardiner 8th in 45min
44sec. In the men’s race Lyndon Cooper finished in 12th place out of
170 finishers in a superb 37min 12sec. He was followed by Ben Chitiyo
26th in 39min 14sec in his debut at the distance, Pete Brewin 27th in
39min 22sec and Jamie Jephcott 30th in 39min 57sec.

Meanwhile at the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jamie Jephcott
was victorious out of 86 finishers, winning the event in a fantastic
18min 42sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Ben Chitiyo finished in 2nd place out of 118
finishers in a superb 19min 27sec. He was followed home by Darren
Tiley 8th in a personal best time for the distance(PB) of 21min 21sec,
Spencer Brooks 23rd in 24min 24sec, Saira Karim 36th and 1st Lady Vet
35 in 25min 52sec, Lyndsey Hodge 37th and 2nd Lady Vet 35 in 25min
57sec, Debbie Barry 40th and 1st Lady Vet 50 in 26min 26sec, Martyn
Coulter 41st in 26min 28sec(PB), Jim Bates 42nd and 1st Vet 70 in
26min 38sec, Debbie Smith 43rd in 26min 42sec, Jane Evans 49th in
27min 38sec, Andy Kinney 52nd in 27min 50sec and Austin Nyamande 76th
in 31min 19sec(PB).

At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K Justin Patten finished in 6th place
out of 164 finishers in 21min 38sec. He was followed by David Page
39th in 24min 40sec, Terry Pike 40th in 24min 41sec, Michelle Aitken
49th in 25min 11sec, Janice Page 51st and 2nd Lady Vet 50 in 25min
17sec, Karen Moir 75th in 26min 37sec and Louise Kedge 78th in 27min
12sec.

At the Scunthorpe Parkrun 5K Paul Lee finished in 31st place out of
259 finishers in 21min 17sec(PB) and Faith Jackson-Lee was 62nd in
23min 24sec(PB).

At the Panshanger Parkrun 5K at Hertford Sean Flynn finished in 32nd
place out of 72 finishers in 21min 31sec.

At the off road Dengie Rotary River Run 10K along the River Crouch
Andy Kinney finished in 51st place out of 72 finishers in 58min 05sec.
