THE Council is working in partnership with Hub + Spoke, Paringdon Sports and Social Club, Essex Police, The Cyclists Touring Club, Halfords, Decathlon and Tesco to deliver Ride Harlow which will take place on Sunday 30 August 2015.

Ride Harlow is a mass-participation cycling event encouraging residents to get on their bike and take to the cycle tracks of Harlow.

This event aims to celebrate the cycle tracks whilst promoting the use of bicycles in a responsible manner as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. All abilities and families are welcome and there are a range of prizes to be won from Halfords and Decathlon.

Councillor Emma Toal, Portfolio Holder for Youth & Community, said:

“This event is a great way of promoting health and wellbeing in Harlow through using one of the town’s best assets. Cycling is a fun, healthy and environmentally friendly way of getting around and Harlow, which has one of the largest networks of cycle tracks in the country with approximately 30 miles of tracks, is a great place to cycle. A town the size of Harlow is perfect for cycling as most journeys are only a couple of miles long; at peak travel times it is often quicker to cycle than drive.

“It’s recommended that the average adult should do 150 minutes of physical activity per week. Building cycling into your daily routine for short journeys helps to achieve this. Using the bicycle instead of the car will also help you to save money.”

Places for Ride Harlow are limited so residents are advised to use the booking form at: www.harlow.gov.uk-/ride-harlow
