Cultural organisations in Harlow can benefit from grants

Communities / Tue 25th Aug 2015 at 09:35am

CULTURAL organisations in Harlow can now apply for grants of £2,500 and above through the Cultural Development Strategic Fund.

The scheme is open now for applications until 30 September 2015, and the form for applications can be found here.

Grants are awarded annually to cultural organisations of all types based in, or working in, the administrative boundaries of Essex County Council who operate cultural projects for the benefit of people in the county.

County Councillor Roger Hirst, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Libraries, Planning and the Environment, said: “Culture in Essex is thriving and it is important that we contribute to it by encouraging and incentivising through grants such as these. I look forward to hearing outcomes from the projects and organisations that are awarded grants this year, and to seeing their work come to fruition.”

Last year Signals Media Arts Centre, a charity based in Colchester working mostly with children and young people from disadvantaged groups, received a grant from the Cultural Development Strategic Fund.

Rachel Hipkiss Signals Media Arts Director, said: “We were lucky to be awarded a grant through the Essex County Council Cultural Development Strategic Fund; allowing us to continue our education work, including helping excluded children back to mainstream education, running holiday workshops, clubs and courses.

“Receiving the grant meant that we could also attract further funds, including £30,000 to run free animation workshops for over 60 local children and young people. Funding is vital to our organisation’s development, to enable us to deliver courses and projects in schools and communities across Essex. Signals Media helps people access, learn about and use digital media to make films, as well as provide people with the support and tools for voices that may not otherwise be heard.”

The scheme is open to arts and heritage organisations of all types based in, or working in, the administrative boundaries of Essex County Council whose work meets Essex County Council priorities.
