Athletics: Impressive performances by Harlow at Pleshey

Harlow Running GreatHARLOW Running Club had a successful day at the Essex Half Marathon Championships held at Pleshey near Chelmsford, picking up an Essex silver medal, a new HRC record and three personal best times for the distance (PB). Dionne Jones finished in 136th place out of 392 finishers and 2nd Lady Vet 45 to win the Essex silver medal in her age group in a superb 1hr 37min 58sec. Just behind her in 138th place, John Tennant finished in 1hr 38min 22sec for a new HRC Vet 65 record.

There were PB runs from Catherine Ridge (225th in 1.48.59), Debbie Barry (279th in 1.55.28) and Jane Evans (312th in 2.0024). First back for Harlow was Jared Bethell in 13th place in a fantastic 1hr 17min 21sec followed home by Jamie Jephcott (111th in 1.36.06), John Bull (115th in 1.36.29), Colin Moody (157th in 1.40.43), Pasquale Pellecchia (174th in 1.42.45), Vicky Steadman (185th in 1.44.14), Sandra Rust (192nd in 1.44.52), Robin Lozeau (238th in 1.50.10), Janice Page (263rd in 1.53.00), Karen Moir (289th in 1.57.03), Debbie Smith (304th in 1.59.16) and David Page (326th in 2.03.54).

Meanwhile at the Great North Run Half Marathon Joanna Lawrence finished in 17,583rd place out of 40,880 finishers in 2hrs 10min 37sec followed by Debbie Cooper 28,913th in 2hrs 32min 27sec.

At the Victoria Park 10K Adrian Fell finished in 14th place and 1st Vet 45 in an excellent PB time of 38min 39sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Alex Smith was victorious, winning the event out of 97 finishers in a PB time of 19min 59sec. He was followed by Terry Ridge (10th in 22.34, an excellent time considering he was pushing a baby buggy!), Paul Dixon (15th in 23.23), Martyn Coulter (21st in 24.05), Wendy Spring (33rd in 27.47), Jeff Mace (42nd in 29.51), Austin Nyamande (49th in 30.34) and Darren Tiley (83rd in 38.19).

At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K John Bull finished in 13th place out of 132 finishers in 22min 11sec followed by Graham Saville (30th in 24.23) and Janice Page (48th in 25.45).

At the Tonbridge Parkrun 5K Alan Wellbelove finished in 64th place out of 313 finishers in a PB time of 23min 48sec.

At the Huntingdon Parkrun 5K Andy Kinney finished in 125th place out of 241 finishers in 28min 57sec. The next day Kinney completed the Hull Marathon, which crosses the Humber Bridge and once the worlds longest single span bridge, finishing in 727th place out of 790 finishers in 5hrs 22min 02sec.

At the Bedford Triathlon Faith Jackson-Lee finished in 54th place out of 68 finishers in a total time, including transitions, of 2hrs 54min 34sec. This included a 1.5K swim in 24min 33sec, a 40K bike ride in 1hr 33min 47sec and a 10K run in 53min 52sec.

At the St. Neots Triathlon Andy Ramage finished in 61st place out of 109 finishers in a total time, including transitions, of 2hrs 54min 12sec. This included a 1.5K swim in 30min 20sec, a 40K bike ride in 1hr 33min 05sec and a 10K run in 46min 44sec.
