Harlow Ladies Second Team Match Report 10/10/2015

HARLOW Ladies Second Team smashed their away game against Phoenix today with a 7-0 win.
The team have faced some struggles losing players and being promoted to a higher division this season, but today they didn’t look out of place.

Harlow managed to work very well as a team and their link up plays are what helped them to run around the Phoenix players today. Harlow’s first goal came when a run up the pitch between Hayley Leach and Nina Johnson-Marshall gave Hayley Leach an opportunity to shoot on goal, it was heading for the goal but was helped along by a defenders stick. Making Harlow 1-0 up.
Harlow became a bit complacent with the goal that they scored and allowed Phoenix to break on an attack which overloaded the Harlow defence of Olivia Figg, Nicole Donaghey and Linda Rowley making it a five on three attack. Nicole Donaghey managed to channel the Phoenix attacker to the left side of the pitch, this allowed Linda Rowley to make an amazing tackle and stopped the Phoenix attack in its tracks.

Harlow managed a quick break where Tracey Taylor passed the ball onto Laura Maynard who managed to hit the ball into the right of the goal while diving in mid-air making the score 2-0.

A lovely ball into the Phoenix D allowed Laura Maynard to pass the ball around a defender and find Sarah Donaghey who managed to slip the ball around the keeper making the half time result 3-0.
Hayley Leach started strong after the break an went on a wild run up the pitch and found herself in the Phoenix D, taking the opportunity she took a shot on goal that was just going wide when it deflected off of a Phoenix defenders stick scoring an own goal.

Laura Maynard took a shot on goal and the Phoenix keeper saved it but didn’t clear the ball properly giving the ball to Hayley Leach who scored an amazing strike, making the keeper pay for their mistake.
Sarah Donaghey dropped into defence for a portion of the game due to an injury, this allowed Nicole Donaghey to push up the pitch. Nicole Donaghey took full advantage of this opportunity and managed to get an assist when she got the ball through the Phoenix defence and found Laura Maynard who didn’t even hesitate with her shot making the score 5-0.

Build up play in the Phoenix D nearly got Catherine Bell her first goal for the club but unfortunately the ball found a defenders foot. Harlow won a short corner from this event, Sarah Alderson injected the ball to the top of the D where Sarah Donaghey was waiting she smashed the ball into the bottom left corner making the score 6-0.

Harlow became tired towards the end of the game and again allowed Phoenix to break through their defence, but keeper Sandra Figg made sure she kept a clean sheet and debt with the shot quickly.
An extremely built up run which almost had every Harlow player touch the ball allowed Hayley Leach to bang the ball to the left post of the goal and got Harlow’s final goal of the game. Making the full time Result 7-0
