Athletics: Bethell at the double for Running Club

HARLOW Running Club member Jared Bethell had a competitive day on Saturday,
running the Harlow Parkrun during the morning and then the first round of the
Metropolitan Cross Country League in the afternoon. At the Harlow Parkrun 5K
Bethell was victorious, finishing 1st out of 104 finishers in a fantastic
personal best time for the distance (PB) of 17min 46sec, just 6 seconds outside
the course record. He was followed home by Ben Chitiyo (2nd in 19.11), Andy
Terrell (6th in 20.54), Terry Ridge (9th in 22.04), Martyn Coulter (12th in
22.40PB), Anna Baker (18th in 24.04), Alan Wellbelove (26th in 24.58), Debbie
Barry (39th in 26.24), Louise Cootes (48th in 27.49), Jeff Mace (54th in 28.54)
, Austin Nyamande (62nd in 30.47) and Darren Tiley (87th in 36.55).
Meanwhile at the Met League Cross Country race, held over a hilly 5 mile course
at Claybury Park in Woodford, Bethell once again led the way, as first Harlow
finisher in 102nd place out of 427 finishers in an excellent 30min 06sec. He was
followed by Rob Lowe (143rd in 31.05), Will Wall (314th in 36.20), Sean Flynn
(348th in 37.51) and Richard Smith (370th in 38.58). In the Ladies race Louise
Kedge finished in 178th place out of 198 finishers in 33min 19sec.
At the Tiptree 10 Mile race there were three PB performances from the four HRC
members. Adrian Fell finished in 25th place out of 362 finishers in a superb PB
time of 1hr 05min 49sec, Len Saterlay was 41st in 1.08.36PB, John Tennant 87th
in 1.14.41 and Robin Lozeau 133rd in 1.19.38PB.
At the Great Eastern Run Half Marathon at Peterborough Jamie Jephcott finished
in 299th place out 3949 finishers in 1hr 29min 10sec.
At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K John Bull finished in 13th place out of 155
finishers in 21min 33sec. He was followed by Paul Lee (17th in 21.49), Faith
Jackson-Lee (54th in 24.31), David Page (60th in 25.01), wife Janice (64th in
25.20), Karen Moir (79th in 26.47) and Alison Bull (99th in 28.51).
At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Spencer Brooks finished in 25th
place out of 103 finishers in 23min 46sec and Paul Schroder 29th in 24min 12sec.
At the multi-terrain Herts 10K at Harpenden Andy Ramage finished in 1544th place
out of 1643 finishers in 1hr 15min 15sec and Steve Crosby, in his debut at the
distance, was one place behind in the same time.
