THE school hall at St Mark’s West Essex Catholic School in Tripton Road was packed out on Friday 16 October when students took to the stage for St Mark’s Has Got Talent. 42 acts auditioned for the finals, in which 15 competed for the winner’s cash prize– funded by the Friends of St Mark’s.
A range of acts including singers, drummers, pianists and dancers vied for first place in the show, which was compered by 6th Formers Charlie Jennings and Kenan Krkic. The standard was so high it was an exceedingly difficult task for the panel of judges to select a winner, however they came to an agreement on vocalist Emma Knudsen, a Year 8 pupil, for first place; Emma gave a moving performance of “ I dreamed a dream” from the musical Les Miserables. Vocalist Sharon Chapuka came in 2nd place and Indian dancers Sharon Thomson Matthew & Rose Joseph in third place.
The evening was a resounding success and English teacher, Miss Shannon Hughes, who organised the event was delighted with the outcome and said, “ The students really did me proud. They were well rehearsed- real professionals. All 15 finalists were incredible!”
