THIS WEEK, the MP for Harlow attended an event held by the Living Wage Foundation that promoted good Living Wage employers.
Robert Halfon said: ‘It was fantastic to attend this event in Parliament to promote businesses who support the campaign, and we should all be proud that local Harlow employers such as Land Sherrifs and Lidl are paying employees the living wage.
Last year I spoke with the foundation at their annual conference as this is something I have campaigned for and supported for a long time. I was delighted when the government introduced the National Living Wage, which will mean that 2.7 million workers will be better off by 2020.
The Living Wage Campaign supports the government’s National Living Wage because it is a statutory measure and establishes an important milestone for higher wages for workers. However the Living Wage Foundation are calling for higher wages, which the Prime Minister has endorsed as something businesses should embrace if they are financially able to.’
