Harlow MP Robert Halfon blasts the Paris terror murders

HARLOW MP Robert Halfon has responded to the terror attacks in Paris.

Robert Halfon said

‘We have all been horrified by the tragic events that occurred over the weekend in Paris. In response to the attacks, the French President has declared that his country is committed to ‘destroying’ IS and announced that France is now ‘at war’. Britain will stand with France. But we must also make our first priority the safety of people in our country.

Today Chancellor George Osborne has announced that the threat of a cyber-attack by terrorists has never been greater, and that we will be doubling our investment into cyber security to £1.9bn. He has said that _‘Isil’s murderous brutality has a strong digital element’ _and that ‘_At a time when so many others are using the internet to enhance freedom and give expression to liberal values and creativity, they are using it for evil.’_

The Home Secretary Theresa May has assured us all that border security will be ‘intensified’. David Cameron plans to increase funding for the SAS and special units by £2 billion by 2020 and extra funding has also been announced for an extra 1,900 security and intelligence officers at MI5, MI6 and GCHQ.

Terrorists want us to be afraid, but the best thing that we can all do is to carry on with our lives and cherish the freedoms that they want to destroy. As I have said before: terrorists only have to be lucky once. We have to be lucky always.’

Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always, attributed to the IRA statement after the Brighton hotel bombing
