Faith NovON Saturday 21st November, as part of interfaith week, Harlow Synagogue opened its doors to all faiths worshiping in and around Harlow.

Rabbi Irit Shillor welcomed Rev Martin Harris, Team Rector of St Paul’s and St Mary’s Churches and Khalid Javid from Harlow’s Muslim Community to the interfaith service which was also attended by Cllr Ian Beckett and Cllr Waida Forman.

The service spent some time in prayer and reflective thought in light of recent global incidents, threats and insecurities. Prayers and readings were shared from the following traditions: Jewish, Christian, Moslem, Baha’i, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Native African Tradition, Native American Tradition, Taoism as well as a Moslem reading from the Syrian 14th century tradition.

Cllr Beckett said after the service, “I think it’s important not only that this service took place but that local people know about it. Time and again we are reminded that Harlow is at its best when people put aside their differences and focus upon their common interests and shared values”.
