Running: Plaudits galore for Harlow Running Club

HARLOW Running Club was presented with the Runners Up Sports Club of the Year
Award at last week’s Active Harlow Sports Awards held in the Council Chamber at
the Civic Centre. The award was a result of having provided fantastic support,
advice and encouragement to its members. The club has also raised many thousands
of pounds for local charities over the years through its organising of the
annual Harlow 10 Mile race. It has also supported other events such as the
Harlow Parkrun.
Three Harlow Running Club members were awarded medals in the Essex Grand Prix
series of six races, held over different distances from 10K to the marathon, run
throughout the year. Paulene Galoppi won the Silver medal in the Ladies Vet 65
category and Colin Moody and John Tennant won the Silver and Bronze medals
respectively in Mens Vet 60 category.
Prolithic marathon runner Andy Kinney, not content with running two marathons
over the weekend as he did last weekend, ran five consecutive marathons from
Friday through to Tuesday. These were the Saxon Shore Series of marathons run at
different locations around the Kent Coast. Race one was the Oyster Bay Marathon,
finishing in 75th place out of 98 finishers in 5hrs 17min 27sec. Race two was
the Viking Coast Thanksgiving Marathon, finishing in 99th place out of 111
finishers in 5.37.24. Race three was the Agincourt 600th Anniversary Marathon,
finishing in 72nd place out of 88 finishers in 5.19.38. Race four was the
Martello Marathon, finishing in 60th place out of 95 finishers in 5.08.18. Race
five was the Dymchurch Marathon, finishing in 57th place out of 96 finishers in
5.21.40.
Meanwhile at the Bass Belle 10 Mile race held at the village of Bassingbourn
near Royston, Jared Bethell finished in 2nd place out of 348 finishers in a
fantastic 58min 40sec. He was followed home by Rich Hynes (13th in a personal
best time for the distance (PB) of 1hr 02min 48sec), Adrian Fell (24th in
1.07.25), Terry Ridge (33rd in 1.09.55), Sharon Wright (61st in 1.14.46), Robin
Lozeau (98th in 1.18.12 PB), Janice Page (155th in 1.24.42), Alan Wellbelove
(169th in 1.25.26), Karen Moir (176th in 1.26.29), Debbie Smith (177th in
1.26.33) and Paula Coleman (247th in 1.34.52 PB).
At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Ben Chitiyo finished in 2nd place out of 79 finishers in an excellent 19min 18sec. He was followed by Martyn Coulter (9th in 22.42), Catherine Ridge (15th and 1st Female in 23.48), Anna Baker (16th and 2nd Female in 23.57 PB), Nicola Smith (20th and 3rd Female in 24.52 PB), Debbie Barry (26th and 1st Female Vet 50 in 25.31), Saira Muschamp (27th in 25.34), Lyndsey Hodge (29th in 25.48) and Alan Wellbelove (34th in 27.10).
At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jamie Luck finished in 22nd place out of 86 finishers in 23min 43sec with Martin McColgan (25th in 23.57), Paul Schroder (27th in 23.58), louise Cootes (43rd in 26.38) and Austin Nyamande (59th in 29.47).
At the Stretford Parkrun 5k at Manchester Mark Hayward finished in 58th place out of 205 finishers in 21min 34sec.
At the Hoddesdon Parkrun 5K Sean Flynn finished in 9th place out of 41 finishers in 23min 32sec.
At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K Terry Pike finished in 66th place out of 116 finishers in 27min 45sec and Joanne Mills was 92nd and 1st Female Vet 65 in 31min 43sec.
At the Reading Parkrun 5K Richard Smith finished in 145th place out of 231 finishers in 29min 09sec.
At the Battersea Park 10K Debbie Barry finished in 106th place out of 342 finishers and 1st Female Vet 50 in 49min 27sec.
