GET snapping and take part in the new #InstaEssex open photography competition.

Offering a diverse range of culture, Essex provides something for everyone. Budding photographers are invited to start capturing images of buildings and architecture; our artwork and theatres; street art and local contemporary social culture, or perhaps an iconic image that sums up the county? The choice is yours of what to capture.

Open to both amateur and professional photographers, entries can be uploaded now via www.exploreculture.org.uk/InstaEssex for a small charge (which will go towards the competition prize money) of £5 per image (up to 4) or £15 for 5 images.

The top three winners will be awarded“ cash prizes of 1st prize £1000, 2nd prize £500 and 3rd prize £250. In all fifteen winners will have their images displayed at London Liverpool Street station and along branch line stations across Essex, helping to raise the profile of Essex at our key transport gateways.

Cllr John Spence, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Finance, with responsibility for Heritage, Culture and the Arts, said: “What best describes Essex culture to you? Have you visited a good museum, been to the theatre or heard a local band play, or was it just something down your street? Whatever it is, our Culture Team’s #InstaEssex wants you to capture it.”

“For your chance to have your photos on public display and to win cash prizes, why not take a shot?”

Inspiration could be gained by taking a look at the explore culture website, and interested residents are being offered the chance to sign up to some photography skills workshops taking place along Essex’s branch lines in January – take a look on the website to find out how to sign up now.

Alternatively if you’re not interested in submitting a photo but still want to share your thoughts on what Essex culture means to you, why not take part in the discussions through the Explore Culture Facebook, Instagram or twitter using #InstaEssex.

Essex County Council’s Cultural Development team has partnered with Abellio Greater Anglia, Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership and Network Rail’s London Liverpool Street Station to deliver #InstaEssex. Thurrock and Southend unitary authorities are also involved in the competition.

The competition is open until Monday 15 February 2015 – there is plenty of time to get snapping! Everything you need to know about how to get involved is on www.exploreculture.org.uk/InstaEssex .
