A LORRY carrying a group of suspected illegal immigrants was stopped and searched by police.

Officers uncovered a group of people hiding among cargo after passing motorists reported hearing noises.

The incident happened around 2pm on Thursday, December 3 in Nazeing as police approached the stationary lorry and arrested all those in the cargo, and the driver.

A spokeswoman from Essex Police said: “Police were called to Nazeing Road, Nazeing at 1.50pm yesterday after reports of noise coming from inside a lorry parked in the road.

“Officers attended and found a group of people inside the lorry, they were arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants and were handed over to UK border force.

“The lorry driver, a 60-year-old man from Bulgaria, was arrested on suspicion of migration offences.

“He is in custody awaiting sentencing.”

The incident was recorded on video by London motorist Amy Littler who said police pulled the lorry over and used dogs through the raid.

Ms Littler told The Daily Mail: “We were confused and wondered what was going on.”

“The police dogs were going mad and when they opened the door we could see loads of people crammed inside.

“They looked really distraught and mimed that they needed water. They were in a bad way and had no water so we gave them some bottles which they drank straight away. The police cuffed them and put them behind a parked car.”
