PARENTS are being encouraged to take advantage of the festive break to apply for their children’s primary school places.

Parents and carers of children born during the period 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 must apply for primary school places for the 2016-17 intake by 15 January 2016.

With many people enjoying some well-deserved time off this festive season, Essex County Council is encouraging parents to use the break to complete their applications.

Applications can be made at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions.

The website also enables parents to check admissions criteria and search for school information. Cllr Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “It is crucial that applications for school places are received on time and I would encourage any parents who haven’t already applied for their child’s place to do so.

“While I appreciate the Christmas holidays can be busy for families, it is also an ideal time to get things done away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

“When making applications, parents should consider admissions criteria carefully and give themselves the best opportunity to be considered for a school they want by using all of all four of the preferences available.”

All children are entitled to start primary school in the September after their fourth birthday.

Any applications submitted after the deadline on 15 January 2016 will only be considered after all on-time applications.
