Chinese New Year to be celebrated at the Harvey Centre

Lifestyle / Fri 5th Feb 2016 at 02:40pm

THIS year The Harvey Centre is celebrating Chinese New Year with a traditional Chinese lion dance. In association with The Real China Restaurant, local martial arts club The Wing Chun Jing Wu Kung Fu Club will be performing the dance throughout the centre on 6th February between 1.00pm to 1.30pm for customers to enjoy.

The lion dance is a traditional Chinese dance performed on Chinese New Year for good luck, as it is believed the lion is a fortunate animal. Performed in a lion costume, accompanied by the music of beating drums, clashing cymbals, and resounding gongs, the lion dance will imitate a lion’s feline movements. The lion will also bless The Real China Restaurant and its kitchen.

In celebration of Chinese New Year, The Harvey Centre will also be asking fans on social media what their favourite dish is from three choices on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of February. Everyone that responds will have the opportunity to win a Real China voucher. In addition, on Saturday 6th February the centre will be asking fans questions around Chinese New Year and winners will also receive vouchers to Real China.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “We are thrilled to welcome The Wing Chun Jing Wu Kung Fu Club to the centre to perform this incredible, vibrant dance. Chinese New Year is a key celebration for us and we are really excited about the entertainment and offers we have in store for the whole family to enjoy. Working with the local community is also really important to us, so we are delighted to welcome Harlow based dancers to deliver this performance.”
