HARLOW Running Club competed in the fifth and final round of the East Herts and
West Essex Cross Country League against teams from Bishop’s Stortford,
Hoddesdon, Saffron Walden and Ware. The race was hosted by Bishop’s Stortford on
a fairly dry and firm 5 mile course. The Ladies team went into the last round in
equal first place with Ware Joggers and needing to put in a good performance to
pull clear of a strong Ware ladies team. But after a fantastic effort on the day
they edged out Ware to claim the Ladies Trophy by just one point. The Men’s team
did not fair so well, finishing in 3rd place on the day and 4th overall. The
combined team finished 2nd on the day and also an excellent 2nd place overall
just four points behind champions Ware Joggers.

First Harlow lady was Louise Brass in an excellent 2nd place out of 73 finishers in 32min 32sec. She was
followed home by Louise Tankard (5th in 34.07), Julia Gardiner (6th in 34.25)and
Sharon Wright (9th in 36.10). In the men’s race Jared Bethell finished in 3rd
place out of 114 finishers in a fantastic 28min 34sec. He was followed by Rich
Hynes (7th in 29.28), Rob Lowe (8th in 30.00) and Alex Smith (20th in 31.28).

Meanwhile at the Cambridge Half Marathon Vicky Steadman finished in 1215th place
out of 5308 finishers in a superb 1hr 42min 41sec. She was followed by Nick
Rogers (1462nd in 1.44.40 debut), Debbie Barry (2127th in 1.51.28 PB) and Brenda
Clayton 4541st in 2.18.38 debut).

At the Roding Valley Half Marathon Mark Bellworthy finished in 278th place out
of 571 finishers in 1hr 51min 36sec in his debut at the distance. He was
followed by Nicola Smith (300th in 1.52.43 debut), Martine Beard (435th in
2.05.51 debut), Jane Evans (447th in 2.08.10) and Jeff Mace (557th in 2.31.44
debut).

At the Kingston upon Thames Half Marathon Will Wall finished in 526th place out
of 1134 finishers in 1hr 49min 23sec.

At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Jared Bethell finished in 3rd place out of 122
finishers in a fantastic 18min 05sec. He was followed by Ben Usher (12th in
22.19 PB), Terry Ridge (15th in 22.24), Anna Robey (20th and 2nd Female in
22.56 PB), Martyn Coulter (21st in 22.59), Spencer Brooks (23rd in 23.39), Alan
Cootes (30th and 1st Vet 60 in 24.33), Paul Dixon (32nd in 24.36), Alan
Wellbelove (34th in 24.47), Robin Lozeau (46th in 26.10), Catherine Ridge (59th
in 28.19), Austin Nyamande (63rd in 28.36), Will Wall (71st in 29.55), Hossein
Erfani (75th in 30.32 PB), Pushpa Mistry (79th in 31.36) and Andrew Smith (80th
in 31.42 PB).

At the Hatfield Forest 5K Jamie Jephcott finished in 5th place out of 121
finishers in a superb 20min 15sec, Jason Haigh (8th in 20.56), Owen Haigh (10th
and 1st Junior in 21.28) and Laura Jephcott (67th and 1st Female Junior in
28.56).

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jamie Luck finished in 19th place
out of 129 finishers in 22min 27sec.

At the Chelmsford Parkrun 5K Dave Page finished in 214th place out of 462
finishers in 25min 20sec.
