Athletics: Twenty is plenty for Harlow runners

SEVERAL Harlow Running Club Members competed in the Essex 20 Mile Championships
held over an undulating 3 lap course at Langham near Colchester. The 20 mile
distance is a unique opportunity for those training for a Spring marathon to
test their fitness for the longer distance. Pride of place on the day goes to
Louise Brass and Colin Moody who both picked up Essex Championship Silver medals
for finishing in 2nd place in their age categories. Brass finished in 95th place
out of 394 finishers and 2nd Female Vet 35 in a personal best time for the distance (PB) of 2hrs 21min 53sec.
Moody finished in 177th place and 2nd Vet 60 in 2hrs 39min 09sec which is a new
HRC Vet 65 record. Also running were Alex Smith in his debut at the distance
(80th in 2.18.41), Brendon
MacLean (115th in 2.25.30 PB), Andy Terrell (123rd in 2.27.24), Jamie Jephcott
(138th in 2.30.34), Andy Ramage (197th in 2.43.58 PB), Catherine Ridge (220th in
2.47.33 debut), Dionne Jones (232nd in 2.49.30), Darren Tiley (239th in 2.51.05
debut),
Debbie Smith (328th in 3.14.19) and Karen Moir (331st in 3.15.04).
Meanwhile at the Milton Keynes 20 Mile race Paul Lee, in his debut at the
distance, finished in 307th place out of 812 finishers in 2hrs 47min 45sec.
At the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 10K Andy Kinney finished in 331st place out
of 617 finishers in 55min 10sec.
At the Harlow Parkrun 5K Daniel Chapman finished in 3rd place out of 100
finishers in a superb PB time of 20min 38sec. He was
followed home by Alan Broughton (6th and 1st Vet 50 in 21.08), Paul Lee (16th in
22.55), Andy Bradley (17th in 23.01 PB), John Bull (18th in 23.15), Paul
Schroder (19th in 23.31), Paul Dixon (24th in 24.34), Alan Cootes (30th and 1st Vet 60 in
25.47), Spencer Brooks (31st in 25.55), Andrew Smith (51st in 29.51 PB), Hossein
Erfani (56th in 30.37) and Pushpa Mistry (58th and 1st Female Vet 50 in 31.04).
At the Chelmsford Parkrun 5K Ben Usher finished in 19th place out of 505
finishers in an excellent PB time of 19min 41sec. He was followed by Martyn
Coulter (48th
in 20.47 PB), Sharon Wright (53rd and 3rd Female Vet 35 in 21.09 PB), Alan
Wellbelove
(150th in 23.41), Nicola Smith (172nd in 24.14 PB), Debbie Barry (173rd and 1st
Female Vet 55 in 24.15 PB), Michelle Hyde (191st in 24.47 PB), Louise Kedge
(216th in
25.42 PB), Jane Evans 266th in 26.54) and Holly Nairn (291st in 27.27).
At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Daniel Jephcott finished in 2nd
place out of 127 finishers in a fantastic 18min 55sec. He was followed by
Carrinne Jay (35th and 1st Female Vet 50 in 23.52), Laura Jephcott (59th and 2nd
Female Junior in 27.35 (PB) which is a new HRC U20 record) and Austin Nyamande
(60th in 27.59).
At the Hatfield Forest Parkrun 5K Jason Haigh finished in 8th place out of 122
finishers in 20min 29sec. Son Owen was 12th and 1st Junior in 21min 14sec and
Peter Mills 86th and 1st Vet 70 in 31min 20sec.
