Athletics: Harlow Running Club make a splash at home!

HARLOW Running Club hosted the third round of the Herts/Essex Midweek Road Race
League Division 2 last week over an undulating and very wet 10K course. Once
again the ladies outshone the men by comfortably winning their race, with the
men only 3rd out of 11 teams. After three races the ladies are in 2nd place, the
men 4th and the combined team are 4th overall. First lady was Louise Brass in
2nd place out of 100 finishers in a superb 42min 18sec. Not far behind was
Louise Tankard in 3rd place in 42.24, Sharon Wright 9th in 44.26 and Julia
Gardiner 16th in 45.49. There was also a personal best time for the distance
(PB) for Holly Nairn 46th in 52.20. In the men’s race 17yr old Afewerk Rossom,
in his debut at the distance, finished in 2nd place out of 170 finishers in a
fantastic 35min 38sec and create a new HRC Under 20 record that was last set 10
years ago. He was followed home by Richard Hynes in 17th place in 38.22, Amaniel
Tesfay 18th in 38.32 and Dan Chapman 25th in 39.04. There were also PB times for
Jason Donovan 40th in 40.22, Andy Smith 140th in 51.45 and Andrew Smith 163rd in
58.09.

Meanwhile at the Cookiethon Marathon in Kent, a hilly off road trail run, Will
Wall finished in 2nd place out of 61 finishers in 4hrs 10min 44sec.
At the Harlow parkrun 5K Ben Usher finished in 4th place out of 172 finishers in
a 20min 08sec. He was followed by Paul Dixon 20th in 23.00, Spencer brooks 23rd
in 23.20, Anna Robey 25th in 23.40, Graham Saville 29th in 24.02, Peter Ayling
32nd in 24.45, Robin Lozeau 42nd in 25.51, Debbie Barry 69th in 28.18, Jane
Evans 71st in 28.30, Andy Smith 72nd in 28.34, Austin Nyamande 73rd in 28.36,
Pushpa Mistry 87th in 30.19, Louise Cootes 133rd in 26.41 and Mark Bellworth
151st in 40.06.
At the Gunpowder parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Andy Terrell finished in 7th place
out of 158 finishers in a PB time of 19min 51sec. Also running were Terry Ridge
11th in 20.57, Jamie Luck 26th in 22.38, Paul Schroder 31st in 22.59, Catherine
Ridge 33rd in 23.02, Peter Mills 78th in 28.02 and Joanne Mills 88th in 29.16.
At the Hatfield Forest parkrun 5K Owen Haigh finished in 6th place out of 198
finishers in a PB time of 19min 57sec. He was followed by father Jason 39th in
24.42 and mother Celia 81st in 28.10.
At the Hackney Marshes parkrun 5K Andy Kinney finished in 118th place out of 185
finishers in 27min 22sec.
At the 3 Mile Hatfield Heath Fun Run, in conjunction with the Hatfield Heath
Festival, Catherine Ridge finished 1st Lady in 23min 53sec and Terry Ridge was
3rd Man in 20.45 whilst pushing baby Joey in a buggy.
