Athletics: Strong performance by Harlow Running Club at Midweek League

HARLOW Running Club competed in the last round of the Herts/Essex Mid Week Road
Race League Division 2 last week over an undulating 10K course at Royston. The
team results on the day reflected the overall results, in that the ladies
finished in 3rd place and the men 4th and overall HRC were 4th out of 11 teams. The ladies
Vets team also bettered the men by finishing 2nd to the men’s 4th place. First
home for Harlow was Afewerk Rossom in 5th place out of 117 finishers in an
excellent 36min 03sec. He was followed by Amaniel Tesfav 22nd in 38.48, Dan
Chapman 25th in 38.54 and Andy Terrell 36th in a personal best time for the
distance (PB) of 39.44. There were also PB runs from Will Wall 67th in 43.53,
Andy Ramage 75th in 45.00 and Andrew Smith 156th in 56.43. First lady was Sharon
Wright in 9th place out of 97 finishers and 3rd Female Vet 35 in 43min 58sec.
She was followed by Vicky Steadman 19th in 47.09, Nicola Smith 22nd in 47.37,
Sandra Rust 23rd and 3rd Female Vet 45 in 47.40 and there was a PB for Faith
Jackson-Lee 26th in 48.38.

Meanwhile at the Stortford 10/5 Mile races, off road trail runs now re-located
to Hatfield Forest Park, Brendon MacLean finished in 10th place in the 10
mile race in 1hr 08min 27sec. He was followed by Jon Steadman 37th in 1.18.44,
Gary Godfrey 39th in 1.19.17, Sean Flynn 45th in 1.21.19, John Tennant 51st and
1st Vet 60 in 1.22.33 and Mark Hayward 51st in 1.25.09.
In the 5 Mile race Dan Chapman finished in 2nd place in a superb 31min 46sec,
Debbie Barry was 37th and 1st Female Vet 55 in 44.55 and Louise Cootes 39th in a
PB time of 44.58.
Will Wall completed two half marathons at the weekend, on Saturday he finished
the Thames Trail Half in 8th place out of 33 finishers in 1hr 45min 39sec and
the next day ran the Bassingbourn Half finishing in 156th place out of 307
finishers in 1hr 59min 34sec.
Mark Moulds had a more exhausting weekend, completing the London to Cambridge
100K Ultra Race, finishing in 79th place in an incredible 18hrs 20min.
At the Spire Bushey 10K Paul Schroder finished in 108th place out of 436
finishers in 48min 11sec and Wendy Spring was 196th in 53min 10sec.
At the Orion Forest 5 Mile, a trail race through Epping Forest at Chingford,
Sean Flynn finished in 60th place out of 154 finishers in 39min 15sec and Louise
Cootes was 108th in a PB time of 45min 22sec.
At the Harlow parkrun 5K Amaniel Tesfay was first finisher out of 141
finishers in 19min 19sec. He was followed home by Ben Usher 4th in
20.03, Terry Ridge 10th in 21.24, Catherine Ridge 16th in 23.00,
Paul Dixon 17th 23.09, Spencer Brooks 18th in 23.10, Anna
Robey 19th in 23.22, Andy Smith 33rd in 25.02, Debbie Barry 37th
in 26.09, Jane Evans 55th in 27.40, Carmen Byfield 59th in
a PB 28.07, Austin Nyamande 63rd in 28.20, Kerry Mavris 68th in 29.20 and Pushpa
Mistry 78th in 30.36.
At the Gunpowder parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Daniel Jephcott finished in 6th
place out of 133 finishers in 20min 14sec. He was followed by Jamie
Luck 19th in 22.25 and Jeff Mace 67th in 28.50.
At the Chelmsford parkrun 5K Martyn Coulter finished in 51st place out of 527
finishers in a PB time of 20min 37sec.
At the Whitstable parkrun Andy Terrell finished in 12th place out of 254
finishers in 21min 16sec.
At the Stevenage parkrun 5K Brenda Clayton finished in 172nd place out of 238
finishers and 2nd Female Vet 65 in 33min 13sec.
