HARLOW’S young athletes’ season concluded with a creditable fifth place finish, in the seven team match at Chelmsford. The result meant that the team finished in nineteenth place overall in the twenty-nine team league; significant progress for one of the league’s smaller teams.

The day’s events began with hurdles and Ami Ashby, in the Under 15 Girl’s, recorded her fastest time of the season in 12.6 seconds. Her positive start galvanised the team and was followed by strong performances across the disciplines particularly for the Under 15 and Under 17 age groups:
Teiye Richards recorded a season’s best 12.7 in the U15 Boy’s 100m; Louise Owen lowered her PB in the same event to 13.4 seconds; Anna Clatworthy jumped a new PB (1.50m) in the High Jump; Savanna Sirkett ran an impressive 47.2 seconds in the 300m and Jamie Putt ran the 800m in a new best time of 2.15.8 and Sam Collins picked up first place in the B event.

For the Under 17s Bethany Harryman recorded two new PBs to cap a fine season. She ran the 80m hurdles in 13.2 seconds and increased her Shot Putt PB to over ten metres. Leo Chaschin also set two new PBs in the Triple Jump, 11.89, and Long Jump, 5.63 and Tino Gavazah posted new bests in the Shot, 9.19, and Javelin, 34.33m.
There were also two relay results of note: a hastily put together U17 Men’s team ran the 4 x 100 in 48.8 seconds and the U15 Girl’s recorded their best time of the season in 53.7 seconds.

After the match Steve Lott, club chairman said; “I’ve been involved for ten years now and have only known bottom three finishes for the youth team section. So to record over 2000 points and finish at least sixteen places higher represents a fantastic effort on behalf of the athletes, coaches and volunteers. I am very proud of what they’re doing and look forward to greater success in the coming seasons.”
