A man has been given a restraining order and jailed for nine months following an assault in Harlow.
Police were called to a property in Felmongers at around 1.30pm on Monday, February 29 to reports of a disturbance.
On arrival they heard a woman in distress inside and forced their wa in.
They were then confronted by a man with a knife who began slashing at them.
The man, Pellumb Gashi, 45, of Stoke Newington Road in London, then tried to jump out of a third floor window to evade capture.
Officers grabbed his leg to stop him falling but lost grip and Gashi fell before being arrested.
He later pleaded guilty to two counts of affray and was sentenced to nine months in prison for each offence, with the sentence to run concurrently.
He was also given a restraining order against the victim.
DC Leo Fordham said: “With the jail of Pellumb Gashi we have managed to get another person off the streets who posed a threat to others.
“I want to praise the officers involved who stepped into a potentially dangerous situation to help someone obviously in distress.
“I hope this result will provide some closure to the victim and reassurance to the public that we will not tolerate this type of action, and anyone threatening violence will be dealt with”.
