HARLOW Running Club competed in the second round of the East Herts and West Essex Cross Country League on Sunday at a muddy 5 mile course at Ware. The league consists of teams from Harlow RC, Bishop’s Stortford RC, Hoddesdon Tri,Saffron Walden Striders, Saffron Walden Tri and Ware Joggers with the final league winners going on to compete in a national final.

On the day both ladies and men’s teams finished in 5th place and combined were also 5th and after two races HRC are in 4th place. Sharon Wright was first home for Harlow in the ladies race, finishing in 7th place out 82 finishers in 37min 48sec. She was followed home by Carinne Jay 18th in 40.00, Celia Haigh 33rd in 43.51 and Anna Robey 35th in 44.15. In the men’s race Rob Lowe finished in 8th place out of 111 finishers in an excellent 31min 07sec. He was followed by Owen Haigh 35th in 34.31, Ryan Smith 36th in 34.32, Jamie Jephcott 37th in 34.36 and Darren Tiley
38th in 34.37.

Meanwhile at the Greenwich Park 10k Sean Flynn finished in 82nd place out of 529
finishers in 46min 55sec and Andy Kinney was 241st in 55.07.
At the Greenwich Park 5K Lorraine Knight finished in 53rd place out of 236
finishers in 28min 03sec.

At the Harlow parkrun 5K Afewerk Rossom was 1st finisher out of 123 finishers in
17min 14sec, just 11sec outside the club Under 20 record. He was followed by
Craig Segal 3rd in 20.01, Terry Ridge 17th in 22.19, Catherine Ridge 22nd in
23.11, Graham Saville 24th in 23.20, Andy Smith 33rd in 24.25, Spencer Brooks
35th in 24.43, Paul Dixon 36th in 24.50, Martin Westley 37th in 24.54, Debbie
Barry 52nd in 26.29, Louise Cootes 57th in 26.42, Martin Elven 59th in 27.16,

At the Gunpowder parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Ryan Smith finished in 7th place
out of 129 finishers in a personal best time for the distance (PB) of 18min
54sec and Jamie Luck was 26th in 22.08.

At the Hatfield Forest parkrun 5K Rich Hynes finished in 7th place out of 173
finishers in 19min 15sec and Justin Patten was 32nd in 23.59.

At the Hackney parkrun 5K Martyn Coulter finished in 20th place out of 138
finishers in a PB time of 19min 39sec.

At the Hoddesdon parkrun 5K Sean Flynn finished in 4th place out of 39 finishers
in 23min 59sec.

At the Ashford parkrun 5K in Kent Andy Kinney finished in 82nd place out of 153
finishers in 26min 57sec.

At the Long Eaton parkrun 5K in Derbyshire Debbie Smith finished in 154th place
out of 262 finishers in 27min 30sec.
