Review of Jonny and The Baptists
Harlow Playhouse on Friday March 24th

GUSTO. That is the word we were looking for. Jonny and the Baptists have such enthusiasm and gusto that they sat in the audience for the first part of this double bill (In Tents and Purposes) and laughed loudly and heartedly.

They then went on and returned the compliment by making us laugh for a good hour at their show.

In many ways, Eat the Poor was good old fashioned left wing “Thatcher hun?” political comedy but in a modern setting.

At its heart is a morality tale about the on going inequalities in the UK. Having said that, our favourite number was the song about Songs and our abiding memory is gold lame……

This guys are terrific fun and entertained the audience in Theatre 2 wonderfully with a show that touches many bases and heartstrings.

It is good to see them on a national tour and we hope they get the recognition they deserve.
