Giselle at the Harlow Playhouse

Harlow Playhouse / Thu 6th Apr 2017 at 02:51pm

HARLOW Ballet Association present the most famous of surviving Romantic Ballet, Giselle, in a very authentic version, with full scenery, costumes and a great deal of the original choreography.

Harlow Ballet

Giselle, a peasant girl, has fallen in love with Duke Albrecht, who has disguised himself as a peasant to try to win her affections.

However, the arrival of the very aristocratic Grand Duchess Bathilde, Albrecht’s real fiancée, causes Giselle to realise just how she has been betrayed, with tragic consequences.

In the second act, the most beautiful of all the balletic “white acts”, we meet the spirits of all the girls who have been betrayed by their lovers.

Reproduced by the HBA from the original 1841 production, but rarely seen today, even in major opera houses.
